Kamui Kobayashi hopes for hot weather in 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi is hoping for hot weather to achieve competitive position in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
Kobayashi believes that tyre management is going to be the most important factor in the forthcoming race. In addition, he said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in approaching race.
“In Valencia it is usually very hot. I personally like that, but it is difficult to say what it means for car and the tyres,” said Kobayashi. “It will be tough, that much is certain. Tyre management will be the key, together with a good race strategy. In
2010 it was actually good fun. Valencia as a city is a nice destination by many measure, I would happily choose it for my holidays. By the way, you can also get the best fresh squeezed orange juice there. However, my target is a strong qualifying as well as
a strong race.”
The Japanese driver is presently standing at 11th place along with Paul di Resta of Force India, in the drivers’ championship with 21 points between Williams’ pair of drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna.
In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, he showed a convincing performance and secured 6th place finish after setting off from 13th grid position.
Conversely, he could not score even a single point in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia as he was retired.
Later, he struggled in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China and came 10th even after starting from third place in the grid.
Afterwards, in the fourth race Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he could not pocket any points as he came 13th after qualifying for 12th grid position.
Nonetheless, he strike back well in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and secured a compelling 5th place finish after beginning from 9th grid position.
Later on, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, he was retired and came 9th in the last race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Above and beyond, he is aiming to deliver his best in the upcoming races so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship.
