Kamui Kobayashi hoping to get Sauber back in Singapore GP after crash in Qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi is hoping to get his team back on the grid in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix taking place on Sunday, September 25 after his crash in qualifying session 2.
Kobayashi had a crash during his first run in Q2, when he crossed over the chicane and after jumping over that he crashed against the wall at turn 10 as a result.
The Japanese driver apologised for his crash in Q2 at the Marina Bay street circuit and admitted that it was his own fault, as he took too much kerb on turn 10, his C30 car jumped very high and he lost control of the car.
After the crash in Q2, Kobayashi was taken to the medical centre, where the medical staff checked him and confirmed him fit for the raceday after that.
The team driver placed at the 17th position on the final Qualifiers result sheet following his accident in Q2.
Talking to reporters, Kobayashi commented, “I saw a chance to fight for Q3, but it didn't work out. I was taken to the medical centre and was quite surprised at how carefully they checked me. However, physically I'm absolutely fine. I will do my utmost tomorrow
to fight for points and give something back to the team.”
On the other hand, the teammate Sergio Perez said that he is pleased with his qualifying round’s performance. He added that his lap time in Q2 was not perfect, while one lap during Q1 was better.
The youngest F1 driver took part in Q1 and Q2 and after struggling in both the qualifying sessions. He secured his 11th position for Sunday’s race at the Marina Bay street circuit.
The Mexican stated, “Nevertheless I'm very confident for tomorrow, as we normally have a strong race pace. The circuit is very technical and a driver can easily make a mistake, or with a good performance make a difference. I strongly believe I will finish
in the points tomorrow.”
Perez is hopeful of having better results in the Singapore race weekend following his 11th place in Qualifiers.
Let’s see how both Sauber drivers, Perez and Kobayashi perform in Sunday’s race.
