Kamui Kobayashi looking forward to perform well in 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi is hopefully looking forward to perform well in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Kobayashi said that they have a car which is capable enough of attaining competitive results in the race ahead while he said that he is expecting a strong race in Silverstone.
“I'm really looking forward to this race, and my expectations are quite high,” Kobayashi said. “Silverstone is one of my favourite circuits. Our cars were always good in medium and high speed corners, but with the Sauber C31 we have also improved the performance in slow corners, which means we should have no problems with the new part of the track, which was introduced in 2010.”
The Japanese driver is presently standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 21 points. Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes and 6 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
He came 6th in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from 13th place in the grid. Later, in the second race he could not pocket even a single point as he was retired.
Afterwards, he struggled with the car’s setup in the third race and could only secure 10th place finish even after starting from third grid position.
Nonetheless, he performed quite convincingly in the Spanish GP held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in which he secured fifth place finish after qualifying for 9th place in the grid.
Although, he has only been able to score 1 point in the last three grands prix, however, he is hoping to bounce back in the forthcoming race.
In addition, even though he will have to face five-place grid penalty in the next race because of his collision with Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Nevertheless, he said that he is feeling positive and targeting to strike back in the upcoming race.
“Despite the fact I have to cope with a penalty, which will send me five places down the grid, I'm optimistic for this race,” he said.
