Kamui Kobayashi says Sauber has made progress in Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that they have made progress in the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit this week.
In Mugello, the Swiss team introduced some major updates in C31 which include new bodywork and front wing plus an altered exhaust layout with an intention to make the essential evaluations in order to improve its pace for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix. Furthermore,
Kobayashi expressed that the team has put a great effort while he said that he is feeling confident for the races ahead.
“At the Mugello test I definitely had the feeling our new update to the car is a step forward for us,” Kobayashi said. “This is good, of course, but only at the Barcelona circuit will we be able to tell how much of an improvement it really is. Not only because
testing never allows for proper comparisons to the competition, but also because the Circuit de Catalunya is special. It has everything - fast corners, medium speed corners and slow corners. Although everybody knows that track so well, it is very difficult
to get the set up right there.”
The Japanese driver is at 12th position in the drivers’ standings in the season so far with 9 points which he scored in the first and the third race as he finished at 6th and 10th place. Conversely, he could not score even a single point in the second and
fourth race.
On the other hand, his teammate, Sergio Perez is currently at 9th place in the drivers’ rankings with 22 points. Additionally, he came 8th in the season opener. Subsequently, he secured an impressive second podium finish in the second race at Sepang International
Circuit in Malaysia in rainy conditions. Contrarily, he could no pocket any points in the last two races.
Sauber are presently at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 31 points ahead of Williams.
In addition, they are making the necessary developments and the significant preparations for the season ahead so as to enhance their race performance in the season ahead. Besides, they have a great potential to achieve a competitive position in this year’s
championship.
