Kamui Kobayashi thinks Sauber have potential to achieve more – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that they have got the potential to achieve more regardless of scoring 80 points in the first half of the current season.
At present, the Swiss team is standing at 6th place finish and is surely the strongest contender in the midfield. Moreover, they are ahead of their main rival, Williams and are behind Mercedes.
Kobayashi believes that although they have performed quite convincingly in the season so far and have successfully developed one of the most competent cars on track. However, he said that they could have attained better results in the first eleven races if they had maximised the given opportunities.
He also said that they could have scored more points in the races until now if they had performed at their best throughout the weekends.
“Overall we have done a good job and achieved great things,” he said. “The team built a very good car with an excellent performance. Since the beginning of season we have been competitive on most tracks, and this means we can be confident for remainder of season. The downside has been we definitely missed some opportunities for some more great results. Too often we didn't manage weekend perfectly. If we can improve there, a lot will be possible.”
Nevertheless, he said that they are trying to bring out the best in them so as to make the essential preparations in order to optimise on the given circumstances to enhance their qualifying pace in the approaching races.
It will be important to mention that he has not been able to score a podium finish in the season until now. Nonetheless, he said that he is aiming to secure his first podium finish in the forthcoming races after this year’s summer break.
"On the one hand I want to get my first podium in F1, because this is definitely within reach with this car," he added.
Furthermore, he said that he is targeting to score reasonable points for his team in the forthcoming races to improve his position in the overall championship fight.
