Kamui Kobayashi tops the timesheets in wet FP1 of 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has topped the timesheets in the wet first free Friday practice session of the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Kobayashi set the fastest time in FP1 and completed 20 laps in the rainy weather conditions. Moreover, he tested the car on full wet Pirelli compound tyres and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams who seemed quite comfortable after facing immense
difficulties in the last few races.
The Venezuelan driver stayed ahead of Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. Furthermore, Vergne was followed by Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who came 5th in the charts and remained ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes came 7th in the timesheets and was followed by Williams’ test driver, Valtteri Bottas who stayed ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
The two-time world champion was followed by the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who came 10th in the timesheets.
Besides, the record championship holder remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India who was further followed by Timo Glock.
Glock stayed ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who was further followed by Vitaly Petrov of Caterham.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren struggled behind the wheel of his car and could only come 15th in the timesheets. Additionally, the 2008 world champion was followed by his teammate, Jenson Button.
Button remained ahead of Charles Pic of Marussia who stayed ahead of Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham. Furthermore, the Finnish driver was followed by HRT drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Daniel Clos.
Romain Grosjean of Lotus came 21st in the charts and was followed by Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 164 points and is 40 points ahead of Webber who is just 2 points ahead of Vettel.
Over and above, the Spaniard was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who remained ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
It is to be noted that the rain badly affected the test run of the contenders in the FP1. Let’s see how all the teams come up in the second practice session.
