  3. The Canadian government wants to make sure that you have a certain amount of money available to you for the duration of your stay in Canada. They are trying to prevent someone from coming here who only has enough money for the airfare, and then ends up a beggar on the streets of some Canadian city.

Essentially, you will NOT be bringing all that money to Canada. What you do is declare a value that is available to you in your local bank account. It must be funds that you can get to using a credit card, debit card, traveller's checks, or you can have up to $10,000 of it in cash with you when you come to Canada.

Here is an example (all funds in CAD$):

A return flight between Turkey and Canada may cost $2000. It may cost you $100 per day for hotel, $50 per day for food. If you are staying in Canada for ten days, then the cost would be:

    $2000 + ($100 X 10) + ($50 X 10) = $3500

So as long as you can prove that you have AT LEAST that much money to cover your expenses while here in Canada, that is all they want to know.

If you have $500,000 in the account, you do not have to declare that. You can tell them you expect to have $10,000 available for your trip and that will be sufficient.

NOTE: I am not sure if they let you put the amount of funds available in Turkish funds or if they expect the money to be shown in Canadian dollars, but my guess would be show the money available in Canadian funds. It should mention this on the form somewhere, but if unsure, ask your nearest Canadian consulate or embassy.
