  1. What do you mean solve this problem? We can't hold those plates together and stop the quakes can we?

We can only be metally prepared for anything at any time. Only this is within our control. There are precautionson what can/can't be done during disasters of all sorts. Follow that. At least the scale of lost lives will be minimised then.

Don't bluntly say 'come out of House'. Come on, don't react to disasters right away. It helps no one!

Just be ready for anything. And help those affected by doing something.

  2. Timberwolf and Nihil are right. Earthquakes happen deep underground, from 5 to 100 miles, and the cracks in the pressure plates that form them are  miles, sometimes hundreds of miles, long. Sorry, you might be thinking in kilometers. An earthquake fault zone can easily extend 1000 kilometers.

The only thing you can do is to prepare. Set aside about 400 liters of clean water, you and your neighbors will need it after an earthquake. Have extra blankets and tarps hidden is a dry safe place, and if you can, put in the same place tools like crowbars, rope, flashlights (electric torches) and so on. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have a week's supply of food safely stored away.

  3. Unfortunately earthquakes cannot be prevented.  Earthquakes are not a result of environmental negligence, and there is no way to prevent them.  As the other people have answered, the only thing we can do to prevent devastation caused by earthquakes is prepare.

  4. Do you know that I issued the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our coast. For issuing the warning I used my earthquake alarm designed by me and in use with me in my lab from the past seven years. I have several imported instruments to give early warning of earthquakes. The one designed by me just at a cost of Rs 600 only gave the warning on the day of Tsunami 2 hours before it strikes our coast. Our Governor of Tamilnadu and many other scientist appreciated my instrumental mechanism of warning systems. But our meteorological department still not came forward to find the real usage of my inventions. The earthquake may strike at any place at any time. Can not be predicted perfectly. I went to London in the year 2002 and asked to find the usage of my earthquake alarm in Leeds university. They refused to test it and said their country will not be affected by earthquakes. But for our surprise they were affected by small earthquake just after four months of my visit.

The earthquke alarm like the  one designed by me only can save the people for time beeing until we find proper prediction methods.

  5. You cannot solve a problem of earthquakes.  They are going to happen and there is nothing you can do about it.  Just make sure that your house is soundly built, and during earthquakes, make sure you are not under anything that can collapse on top of you.
