After impressing last season, the promising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 batsman Kane Williamson has been retained by the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club for the first half of the 2012 season.
Confirming the deal, the Gloucestershire director of cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Garry-Bracewell-c67876 praised the New Zealander for his terrific performances for the county last season.
"He proved a very good fit in our dressing room last season," John Bracewell, said. "Since then he has developed in all three formats of the game for New Zealand and that reflects great credit on him, as well as showing the benefit of his time with us,"
he added further.
The Kiwi batsman scored 831 first class runs in the 2011 season at an average of 36.13. He was also part of the New Zealand squad that toured Zimbabwe and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 earlier
this year as well. He scored a match-saving hundred in the second innings of the third and the final Test against South Africa at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
The 21-year-old right-handed middle-order batsman will remain at Bristol until early July. He will leave the county as Kiwis are scheduled to tour the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in July-August this year. Once Williamson leaves Bristol, another New Zealand player, who has
not yet been named, will fly over to replace him.
The Kiwi middle order batsman will arrive in Bristol well in time for the county’s first championship match at home against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 on April 26.
The county has also secured the services of former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Bernard-Muchall-c81025 for two years. The 25-year-old right-handed batsman and bowler was on trial with the County during the pre-season matches, and he earned the selectors' nod with some impressive
performances in those games.
"John Bracewell was very specific in what he wanted from me and obviously I have impressed in the right ways," said Muchall after he was introduced to the media yesterday. "I would hope to bat around six, seven or eight in the order, but it looks a strong
batting line-up and I'll happily slot in where required," he added further.
