Kaneria hires legal team for ECB disciplinary hearing – Cricket News Update
Out-of-favour Pakistani leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, has hired a team of three lawyers to represent him as he prepares to defend himself in front of the England and Wales Cricket Board, which has summoned him for a disciplinary hearing.
“Kaneria has hired three lawyers, two from the UK and one from Pakistan to represent him before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 and Wales Cricket Board,” confirmed the cricketer’s lawyer, Farogh Naseem in an official statement.
“Kaneria pleads not guilty to the charges... and also objects to any sanction being inflicted on him,” the lawyer added.
The 31-year-old’s name became linked with controversy in 2010, when he was arrested, along with then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 teammate, Mervyn Westfield, for alleged involvement in a spot-fixing case. He was later released without charge owing to insufficient evidence, but
his name cropped up once again during Westfield’s trial earlier this year, when he was named as the alleged link between bookmakers and players.
The 23-year-old Essex pacer, who was charged for having deliberately conceded a set amount of runs during a Pro40 match between Essex and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in September 2009, claimed that Kaneria had set up the deal which offered Westfield 6,000 pounds for spot-fixing,
and 4,000 pounds to the Pakistani spinner for having acted as the middleman.
While Westfield was sentenced to four months in prison, Kaneria maintained that he was innocent, and would fight to clear his name.
He has not been considered by selectors for a place in the national squad ever since his name was first associated with the spot-fixing scandal, and has yet to be cleared by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 had also previously issued

Kaneria continues to play in domestic tournaments, but his cricket career could come to an abrupt end as he faces an ECB disciplinary hearing, to which he has been summoned in May, along with Westfield. The ICC dictates that any rulings by the ECB are immediately
applicable to all other boards, which implies that any ban imposed by the ECB would immediately be put into effect by all others.
