Kaneria to announce decision regarding ECB hearing after consulting lawyers – Cricket News Update
Out of favour Pakistan leg-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after consulting his lawyers.
Kaneria became embroiled in controversy in 2010 when he was arrested, along with Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield for the alleged involvement in a spot-fixing case.
He was later released owing to insufficient evidence, but his name cropped up again during Westfield’s trial earlier this year, which saw the latter sentenced to four months in prison. Kaneria was pinpointed as the middleman who set up the deal which saw
the 23-year-old pacer accepting 6,000 pounds in exchange for deliberately underperforming during a Pro40 match between Essex and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in September 2009.
Kaneria however, maintained his innocence, despite the fact that he has still not been cleared by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board’s integrity committee. A veteran of 61 Tests, with 261scalps to his name, he has not been considered for the national side ever since
his name was associated with the scandal, although he continues to play in domestic competitions, his most recent performance involving a stint as captain of Sindh in the Pentangular Cup.
However, the scandal appears to have been refreshed as the ECB recently released a statement saying Westfield and Kaneria were due for a disciplinary hearing in May for “alleged breaches of the ECB’s anti-corruption directives.”
Kaneria’s brother, however, maintains that no such notice has been received, and the 31-year-old would consult with his lawyers before deciding whether to attend the hearing or not.
“We have received no notification of the ECB disciplinary hearing so far. When we get it we will consult our lawyers before announcing any decision,” confirmed Vicky Kaneria, the right-armer’s brother.
“Danish was questioned by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 police when this incident took place and was released without being charged. He is innocent.”
“We have no issues about him going to London to attend the hearing but first we will consult our lawyers and see what the hearing is all about,” he added. “We want this issue to be settled once and for all because it has nearly destroyed my brother’s career.”
