Kansas City Chiefs’, Matt Cassel helps woman escape harm from fire – NFL news Update
Kansas City Chiefs’ player, Matt Cassel, last Thursday, helped a woman escape harm from a fire in her house.
According to reports, wife of Cassel saw smoke coming out of a neighbour’s house and informed her husband. Cassel acting immediately rushed to the neighbour’s house and rang the bell several times and started knocking on the door.
He circulated the house in his bid to inform the woman of the imminent harm. The woman was alerted in time and came out of the house safe.
The incident happened on Thursday on Street of Dreams in the Cass County gated community.
Cassel rose as a hero on the occasion but was very modest in his comments as he declined to take credit for his actions.
"I wasn't heroic at all. I just ran up to the house and alerted them. The real heroes are the fire fighters." Cassel said in a message intended for KMBC 9 News.
The woman had been unaware of the fire in her house and her husband was out of town. It seems a strong possibility that she may have sustained harm had Cassel not acted immediately.
One neighbour talking to KMBC 9 News, termed Cassel a hero.
"I know Matt wouldn't want this kind of attention, but I definitely think he was a hero last night."
Cassel is a quarterback for the Chiefs and had his season ended after he sustained a hand injury in week 10 that made him miss seven straight games.
Cassel suffered from a hand injury that required a surgery while playing against the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter of the game. Cassel sustained the harm after being sacked by Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller.
The Chiefs lost that game as well as their quarterback.
Following the incident, Cassel had a hand surgery that made him miss out the remainder of the season.
The quarterback played nine games this season completing 160 of 269 passes for 1,713 yards and scored ten touchdowns while giving in nine interceptions.
However, Cassel is expected to make a return to the team this year and he appeared eager to join his team mates.
“I’m motivated. I am eager and excited about getting back to work and getting us back to the position where we can go to the playoffs.’’ Cassel said.
The Chiefs failed to reach the playoffs this season and had their coach Todd Haley sacked. Romeo Crennel was brought in as the interim coach who later on took over as the new head coach of the team.
