Kansas City Chiefs' QB Matt Cassel in doubt for the rest of season – NFL News
Kansas City management fear, quarterback Matt Cassel’s injury may see him out for the remainder of the season.
Chiefs Coach Todd Haley said that Cassel’s name would not be put on the injured reserve list but did not rule out the possibility of the quarter back missing the remainder of the season. The coach termed the injury being “significant”
enough to necessitate a surgery which could make him miss out the remainder of the season.
"He will probably have to have surgery at some time," Haley said. "The length of it, we're not sure, but there's some optimism. Each person it varies, but it's a difficult injury."
Cassel injured his right hand while playing against the Broncos Denver which his team lost 17-10 on Sunday. The injury was apparently sustained when Cassel was sacked by Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller. After the incident an unwilling
Cassel was asked by the medical officials to leave the field. Cassel was then replaced by Tyler Palko who then played for the rest of the game and managed a field goal.
"I was a little banged up, so that's what kept me out, I wanted to go but I was told not to."" Cassel said. Cassel had expressed his determination to play at New England next Monday night but the injury may not allow his desire
to be fulfilled.
Tyler Palko is now expected to take the place of the injured Cassel and play on Monday night at New England. Haley feels pretty confident about the replacement saying that Palko understands the offence.
“We feel good about Tyler, or he wouldn’t be here and he wouldn’t be our number two,” Haley said. “In his case, there’s not a lot of regular-season action to go on, but I feel like he’s done a great job while he’s been here of
developing and getting better.”
The injury prone Chiefs have been constantly plagued with injuries throughout the season. They have lost running back Jamaal Charles, safety Eric Berry, for the rest of the season. Also tight end Tony Moeaki and linebacker Brandon
Siler succumbed to injuries ending their games for this season.
