Kansas City Chiefs’ Brian Daboll to focus on an “attacking offense” – NFL News Update
The new offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, Brian Daboll is determined to come forward with an attacking offense which would be focused on attacking the opponents.
Daboll said:
“When you’re an offensive football coach, you want to try to really set precedent on defence and attack the defence. I think it’s important to be balanced to help the quarterback out in the run and the pass, utilize different personnel groups, different formations".
Daboll started his career in National Football League (NFL) as a defensive coaching assistant back in 2000 for the New England Patriots, promoted as wide recievers' coach in 2002, and serving in that position for the Pats till 2006.
Daboll came in as a replacement for Bill Muir who retired earlier on.
The offensive coach slot with the Chiefs has remained uncertain ever since Scott Pioli took over as the new general manager.
Chan Gailey was the first to be fired by Pioli and was replaced with Todd Haley who initially shouldered the responsibility of an offensive coordinator along with being the head coach.
Charlie Weis was the next offensive coordinator but he resigned after a season and was replaced with Muir who retired a few days back.
Daboll is faced with many challenges as the Chiefs loom with the loss of key players on the offensive front.
Quarterback, Matt Cassel was lost for the season, following a hand injury that required a surgery. Though, he is expected to be back in the team soon.
However, Cassel’s injury played a major role in the elimination of the Chiefs from the playoffs and in the sacking of its head coach, Todd Haley.
Crennel, who was then brought in as the interim coach for the remaining three games, recently took over as the permanent head coach.
Daboll has enjoyed close relationship with Crennel when they worked together for the Patriots, and that could have played a possible role in his hiring by the Chiefs.
However, Crennel said that Daboll was a nice person who worked very hard.
Chiefs also lost tight end, Tony Moeaki, and running back, Jamaal Charles, to injuries, causing much damage to the Chiefs' offence.
The 36-year-old Daboll would face these challenges as he tries to develop Chiefs' offence that would attack the opposition, but in the absence of these key players, Daboll’s goal may be hindered.
Daboll would be focusing on an “up-tempo scheme” and try to keep the opponent’s defence off-balance with the help of threatening runs and passes.
Daboll served as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns after which he joined the Miami Dolphins last year.
