Kansas City Chiefs’ DB Brandon Flowers knows how to control Peyton Manning – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive back, Brandon Flowers, has shrugged off all the hype surrounding the arrival of veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, in Denver, saying that he knows how to control the former Indianapolis Colts’ star, who has now joined the
Broncos.
Last year, Broncos qualified for the National Football League (NFL) playoffs from American Football Conference (AFC) West division while Chiefs were left behind.
Broncos won and lost eight games respectively and qualified for the playoffs, while Chiefs won seven games while losing nine and ended up at the bottom of the division.
This time around, however, Chiefs have different plans and they are hoping to make it to the postseason by overcoming their flaws and working out well on offence as well as defence.
But the biggest hurdle in Chiefs’ way will be the Broncos who now also have services of Manning.
Last year, it was the sensational Tim Tebow who led the Broncos impressively and now Manning has replaced him, creating more hype for the team’s success in the upcoming season.
Like any other NFL player, Flowers also did not rule out the importance of Manning’s presence in the team, but he seems to have a plan to contain the only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league.
According to The Kansas City Star, Flowers acknowledged Manning’s talent and experience and said:
"We've got the mind-set we're going to win the AFC West. Peyton Manning, he's a quarterback that everyone wants to have. He's not going to turn the ball over, he's not going to make critical mistakes.”
A quarterback cannot be successful as long as he does not have proper receiving corps and that’s what Flowers is going to target against the Broncos.
He was of the view that it is pretty difficult to hold Manning, but the defence could work things out by blocking the quarterback’s receivers.
He said:
"But I'm going out there saying if my man can't get open, he won't have no one to throw the ball to. So as long as I do my part, we're not too worried about Peyton Manning."
It is still too soon to tell what Manning will bring to Denver since he missed the last NFL season. However, all the teams are preparing themselves to face Manning as he still poses serious threat to his opponents.
