Kansas City Chiefs’ Romeo Crennel confident of new OC – NFL News Update
Romeo Crennel has given his vote of confidence for the new offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, Brian Daboll in his recent press talk with the media.
Crennel defended Daboll’s hiring saying he was a very hard working person.
Daboll has been closely associated with Romeo Crennel and the New England Patriots long before he came to the Chiefs team.
During his time with the Patriots as a defensive coaching assistant, Daboll got to work closely with Crennel, who was hired as the defensive coordinator, in 2001, while his association with Crennel continued till 2004, after being
promoted as the wide receivers’ coach, until Crennel left the Patriots.
That could have played an important role in Daboll’s hiring but Crennel downplayed the impression by saying that having worked with Daboll only helped him to get to know him better and the reason why he hired him was that he would
do a good job for the Chiefs.
Crennel said that Daboll was a “smart” and a “good person” who worked very hard and had a lot of experience on account of having worked with many different coaches and teams, along with having coached the quarterbacks and wide
receivers.
“I’ve worked with him and I find him to be very thorough. He’s worked with the defence, coached the wide receivers, coached the quarterbacks, been a coordinator in this league, been to several different teams, has worked with several
different coaches from Nick Saban to Bill Belichick to Tony Sparano and I think that through the years he’s gained valuable experience” Crennel said.
Crennel answered in affirmative when asked if the decision to hire Daboll was hundred percent solely his.
Earlier on in the last season Romeo Crennel worked as the defensive coordinator for the Chiefs and proved his calibre as the Chiefs defence soon became their biggest strength under him.
Crennel was then hurled in as the interim coach by the general manager Scott Pioli after the sacking of the then Head Coach, Todd Haley.
The Chiefs were declining under Haley and were near to being eliminated from the playoffs when Pioli decided to bring a change in the team, while still focused on reaching the playoffs, with just three games remaining in the season.
Crennel started brilliantly with a victory over the Green Bay Packers handing them their first defeat of the season.
However, he was unable to lead the Chiefs to the playoffs as the Chiefs lost to the Oakland Raiders in the ext game.
Nevertheless with a 2-1 track record, he had proved his efficiency and was later appointed the permanent head coach of the Chiefs for his remarkable performance.
