Kansas City Chiefs’ Romeo Crennel finds increase in popularity ratings – NFL News Update
The new Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, Romeo Crennel, continues to enjoy high popular ratings which bolstered further as he found a new supporter in injured quarterback, Matt Cassel, who has become the latest player to extend his support to him.
“I’m really excited about Romeo being our head coach’’, Cassel said.
“Our team obviously responded very well at the end of the year. Being in the meetings, seeing how he conducts himself and controls the room and how he approaches the job, everybody to a man respects him and wants to play for him”.
Cassel, who had his season ended after he sustained a hand injury that required surgery, is expected to return to the team this year. Cassel said the injury was healing nicely and said that he was "motivated" to return.
Cassel said he was looking forward to working with the new coach.
Crennel was appointed as the interim coach for the remainder of the team’s three games this past season after Todd Haley was fired.
Haley had succeeded in leading Chiefs to the playoffs last season, but it seemed as if he was unable to repeat his performance this season after his team slumped to a 5-8 performance.
Crennel, who was the defence coordinator of the Chiefs before being elevated, had already proven his ground when under him, Chiefs had their defence transformed into their biggest strength.
The first achievement of Crennel was making a successful debut by beating the unbeaten Green Bay Packers, who were denied the quest for a perfect season by the Chiefs.
The victory which came as a surprise for everyone had Crennel’s ratings rocket up.
It was the determination shown by Crennel in that game that had everyone impressed.
It was no secret that Crennel wanted to be the permanent head coach and had announced his aspirations publicly.
Though the next game against the Oakland Raiders ended up in a 16-13 defeat, eliminating the Chiefs from the playoff contention, they rebounded in their next game to beat the Denver Broncos.
With a 2-1 track record, Crennel proved to be the deserving candidate for the head coach slot.
The Chiefs sure looked a newly changed team with a stronger outlook under Crennel. No one had expected Chiefs to make a comeback with such a strong resistance.
Crennel had succeeded in gaining the support of the players before the GM, Scott Pioli, decided to have him as the new head coach.
Two key players, Tamba Hali and Bill Muir, had announced their support for Crennel, saying that they wanted him as their new coach.
Crennel has remained the head coach of the Cleveland Browns with whom he managed to get a contract extension too, but had to leave after Browns fell to a 4-12 performance the following year.
