Kansas City Chiefs’ Tony Moeaki hopes to be hundred percent fit before training camp – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Tony Moeaki, who missed the last National Football League (NFL) season owing to an injury, has expressed satisfaction over the pace of his recovery, hoping that he would be able to join the team before the start of its training
camp in summer.
Moeaki started his professional NFL career in 2010 when Chiefs selected him in the third round of that year’s draft.
He was given the starting role right from the start and he did not disappoint the observers.
In his rookie year, he played and started 15 games of the regular season in which he gained 556 yards on 47 receptions with an average of 11.8 yards per carry. He also got three touchdowns under his belt.
Moeaki was hoping to carry the momentum into the next season and further build on the performance. As luck would have it, he carried out all the necessary workouts and attended all the required practice and training sessions, but he tore his knee ligaments
during the final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
As a result, he was unable to take the field later and was placed on the team’s injured reserve list. He missed the complete 2011 NFL season.
Moeaki underwent a surgery to treat his injury and after successful medical treatment, he is ready to take the field again.
The Kansas City Star reported that the player is still under the phase of recovery and rehabilitation. However, it was also reported that Moeaki was satisfied with the pace of his recovery and hoping to be a part of the team’s training camp in July.
He said:
'Rehab is good. As far as team activities, I’m just doing what the trainers and the coaching staff tells me to do. I don’t really know until we get there.''
Moeaki also said that the recovery phase was particularly tough on him as he was unable to play and forced to watch his team’s games without contributing towards the team’s success.
He said:
''It was pretty frustrating. You can’t do what you like to do. You just have to watch. That’s pretty tough.''
As per the NFL schedule, Chiefs are going to play first game of the next season against Atlanta Falcons on September 09, and Moeaki is hoping to be a part of the starting line-up.
