Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Adam Zimmer arrested for drunk driving – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs’ latest undoing came off the field as their assistant coach Adam Zimmer was arrested for DUI charges on Sunday, December 23, 2012.
According to Kansas City Police, Zimmer was arrested on Sunday night for driving while intoxicated. He failed in the sobriety tests and was later charged with DUI.
The coach crashed his vehicle while being drunk. He was the only person present in the car and was not injured.
Zimmer was released later on Monday, December 24, as the coach posted a $500 bond. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said on Monday that he was aware of the situation. Talking to the reporters, Crennel said:
"That is being investigated and we don't have all the facts about that, we'll gather the facts as well as the NFL and we'll see where that leads us.”
Romeo told the media that he would not comment on whether the coach would take up his duties for the team’s Week 17 game against Denver Broncos. Crennel went on and said:
"We don't condone DUIs. That's not the right thing to do. Everybody knows that educating people about the hazards of driving under the influence is really what . . . needs to get done. You do that to the best of your ability and then people
have to make their choices."
Zimmer was arrested just a few hours after Chiefs got a 13-20 defeat against Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, December 23. He is the son of Chiefs defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
The coach is currently placed in the assistant defensive coach position as well as assistant linebackers’ coach. Zimmer is going through his third season with the Chiefs.
Zimmer’s father Mike Zimmer spoke with USA TODAY earlier this month and said that his son was having a great deal of difficulty coping up with the death of linebacker Jovan Belcher, who recently killed himself in front of some team officials.
He said:
"It's hard, my son was really down. Thank goodness, he wasn't there to see it. I couldn't imagine that."
Belcher shot himself and his girlfriend on Saturday, December 01. He played under the guidance of Zimmer.
