Kansas City Chiefs become another suitor for Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning-NFL News
The Kansas City Chiefs have become another team to be linked to the possibility of signing Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, off the free agency.
A section of media reported a couple of days earlier that the team’s general manager, Scott Pioli, has spoken to the player’s agent, Tom Condon, twice in the week and the franchise appears to be a right fit for the QB.
So far, Chiefs have not commented on the report. The apparent mum leaves the matter open to contradictory conclusions on the chances of Manning joining the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is yet again that the player has heard of another suitor awaiting him. His stay at Colts, meanwhile, is increasingly becoming impossible in the near future.
Colts’ owner has recently claimed to be in talks with Manning on the lingering issue of the player’s return from a neck injury and restructuring his deal.
Yet, there is a growing probability that Colts might not take him back as there is no guarantee of both sides agreeing to a solution equally acceptable for them.
Jim Irsay, the Colts’ owner, is said to be hopeful about finding an amicable answer to the looming question of Peyton’s future with the franchise, but the player might not necessarily agree to the owner’s ideas of seeking a way out.
Amid all the uncertainty, a number of teams have been projected to be potential next designations for the player if he is cut loose by the team.
The New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans and now Kansas City Chiefs have explicitly hoped for the player’s signing off the free agency.
Apparently, Manning who is still at Colts, has not been approached by any of them, but fans from almost all these teams have been campaigning to bring Manning to their respective towns.
The chances of the player’s move are expected to be clearer after a final decision on his future by the Indianapolis Colts.
It could take longer than the player’s anticipation as Colts’ management does not look in a mood of making any commitment until it receives some sort of guarantee regarding the player’s health, fitness and strength.
A day earlier, Colts’ general manager, Ryan Grigson, said that they would wait for ‘things’ to happen and would not take an initiative on matters, which they do not have control of.
He refrained from touching the issue of $28 million bonus payment to the player, which is due by March 08, 2012.
The NFL trade deadline of March 13, 2012, is also not far away, and in case Colts decide against the payment of bonus, Peyton Manning, will become an unrestricted free agent.
All the potential teams then can compete for the player’s inclusion to their sides.
