Kansas City Chiefs’ coach Romeo Crennel goes open about Colts’ QB Peyton Manning choice-NFL News
A couple of days after Kansas City Chiefs’ officials avoided to declare Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback (QB), Peyton Manning, to be on their radar on his availability in the market, the coach, Romeo Crennel, confirmed indeed it is the case.
Crennel could not help concealing the truth and said that he would be crazy not to pursue a player of Manning’s calibre provided he becomes a free agent.
The coach said:
"I'm not supposed to talk about anybody else's players, and he's still a player with Indianapolis.”
At the same time he added:
"But with a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he were available. I'll leave it at that."
Chiefs’ general manager, Scott Pioli, on Friday, February 24, 2012, refrained from admitting that the team would be interested to take Manning on board, if he becomes available.
Crennel has now attempted to clear the situation by declaring they will definitely go after the player if he is cut loose by Colts.
Kansas City Chiefs have joined the list of the teams who are waiting anxiously for Peyton Manning’s signing.
The player has a couple of more weeks to become a free agent, while Colts have a deadline of March 08, 2012 to pay him the optional bonus of $28 million to activate his deal for another four years.
In case they decide against giving the bonus, the player will become an unrestricted free agent after March 13, 2012.
Colts might exercise the option of negotiating an extension with the player and if both agree to delay the bonus payment, there is a chance that Manning will remain at the Indianapolis Colts.
However, if he is cut loose by Colts, which is a possibility in the wake of their dissatisfaction over his health and fitness, a number of teams are eying his inclusion in their sides.
Besides Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans are a few teams, which have explicitly expressed their desire to sign Manning.
There are many other teams that silently hold the wishes of having the player of Manning’s calibre in their sides.
As different teams continue with their interest for the player, the atmosphere around the QB’s stay at Colts remains cloudy at the moment.
It is not the calibre of Peyton that is apparently making Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, to think well before making his mind about the future of the player, it is the uncertainty about his health and fitness that makes him give a second though to the matter.
Irsay’s choice apparently is in contradiction of recent comments of an independent orthopaedic surgeon, who said that the teams interested in Manning can imply the trajectory of his progress since the neck surgery in September 2011 to assess his present
status.
