Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers remains doubtful for season opener – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs have little hopes that their cornerback Brandon Flowers will be back on time to play the first game of the 2012 season.
Chiefs have many of their important players injured; it is a headache for their coach Romeo Crennel who is facing a dare situation of putting backups at many of the starting positions for their Week 1 game against Atlanta Falcons.
According to Chiefs, Flowers supposedly has a bruised heel. This is a worrying sign for coach Crennel who does not have much backup at cornerback position. According to the Associated Press, Crennel said:
"Flowers has tried to do something the last couple of days and hopefully with this time off and this rest, he'll be feeling better and do more things. Hopefully with this time off and this rest, he will be feeling better and he will start doing more things
and be able to help us out on Sunday."
Flowers is not the only Chiefs player who is facing the possibility of sitting out the season opener. Defensive tackle Anthony Toribio is currently on walking boot after injuring his ankle. Also, backup quarterback Brady Quinn, safety Kendrick Lewis and
Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Johnson are on the injury list.
Crennel is hopeful that some of these players will eventually be ready to participate in the starting game. He said:
"Some of the injured guys are making progress and coming along. This week will tell a lot about where they are and what their availability for the game will be."
Chiefs have not practised since their final preseason game against Green Bay Packers. Flowers did look much better during last week and going towards a speedy recovery.
Although Flowers did not practise last week, he did some light jogging and back pedalling on the sidelines.
Flowers has played four seasons for Chiefs and is vital part of their defensive team. He was drafted by Chiefs in the second round (35th overall pick) in the 2008 draft.
