Kansas City Chiefs delighted to see their running back Jamaal Charles return to his best – NFL News
After spending almost the entire 2011 season on the sidelines, running back Jamaal Charles showed he still retains all the traits of the game on Sunday September 23, 2012, as Kansas City Chiefs won their Week 3 game, 27-24, against New Orleans Saints.
Charles' record-breaking 91-yard run became the starting point of a remarkable comeback by Chiefs who were 24-6 before that run in the third quarter and later went on to win the game in overtime. It is the best comeback victory in the franchise history.
Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel praised Charles for putting such an effort to take the team to their first win of the season. During the news conference on Monday, September 24, Crennel said:
“Jamaal Charles and his rushing yardage and then a 91-yard run for a touchdown, I think that kind of lifted the team and helped in all aspects make them feel like we could win the game. He was doing well, so I was hoping for another 91-yarder.”
Charles showed signs of blitz that he had in the 2010 season. His 91-yard run was the longest rushing touchdown in Chiefs’ history.
The running back finished the game with outstanding statistics. He carried 33 passes for a whopping 233 yards and a touchdown.
He also got a sparkling 40-yard run later on in that game. Charles himself was very satisfied to get his old form back. He said:
"I didn't trust myself (until Sunday). It really hit me when I started getting the runs. I started trusting myself. I kind of feel like the old me, especially breaking that long run and finishing it. It's motivating me more that I still have my speed and
I still can run the long ones."
Last season was a tough year for Charles as he got an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury during Week 2 game. He was unable to return for the rest of the season.
Charles was drafted by Chiefs in the third round (73rd overall pick) of the 2008 draft. If he remains fit throughout the season, Chiefs (1-2) will have chances of winning more games than last season.
