Kansas City Chiefs end Green Bay Packers' quest for a perfect season – NFL Week 15 Recap
Green Bay Packers quest for a perfect season failed as the Kansas City Chiefs drove to a surprising 19-14 victory. The defeat put an end to Packers 19 straight wins that had seen them lead the league for over a year now.
Aaron Rodgers of the Packers despite a touchdown came up with his lowest performance this season. He completed only 17 of 35 passes for 235 yards. Rodgers however was found crediting the Chiefs for the win.
"They had a good game plan. You have to give them credit." Rodgers said.
The Chiefs were being led by interim coach Romeo Crennel after Todd Haley had been fired. Their win comes after losing five of their last six games.
"Everybody had marked it off as a win for the Packers, but those guys in the locker room, they're football players. They decided they were not going to lay down, they were not going to give up, so they went out and played a tremendous
game." Crennel said.
The Chiefs managed to take a lead from the first quarter of the game with a 19 yard field goal by Ryan Succop. This was followed by another 32 yard field goal in the ending seconds of the first quarter helping the Chiefs extend
their lead to 6-0.
No points were scored in the entire second quarter as the Packers continued with their dismal performance for the entire first half. The Chiefs were leading for much of the third quarter until Rodgers managed to hit Donald Drivers
with a two yard touchdown pass which enabled the Packers take the lead 7-6. Just when it seemed that things would be getting better for the Packers, Ryan Succop hit back again with a 46 yard field goal. It was thus only for a brief moment of five minutes that
the Packers managed to keep the lead which proved to be their only lead in the game.
The agony for the Packers continued in the fourth quarter as Ryan Succop went for his fourth field goal of 20 yards. This was followed by a touchdown by Jackie Battle who ran for one yard after taking the ball from the kick of
Succop. The Chiefs had the game 19-7 to their favour with about 5 minutes remaining in the game. The Packers as expected desperately tried equalling the score but all they could manage was a touchdown by Rodgers who ran 8 yards to convert a kick by Mason Crosby
Kick.
Packers with an average of 36 points were kept to a total of 14 points in the game which proved to be their lowest this year.
Kyle Orton managed to outsmart Rodgers by throwing for 299 yards completing 23 of 31 passes.
