Kansas City Chiefs face another struggling side Carolina Panthers in Week 13 – NFL Preview
It is a matchup between two execrable teams that are currently under massive pressure to come out with better performance. Miserable Kansas City Chiefs will go against deplorable Carolina Panthers in Week 13 tie on Sunday, December 02, 2012 at Arrowhead
Stadium, Kansas City, MO.
The head coaches of both the teams are under scrutiny of their respective bosses as they have yet again failed to live up to the expectations.
Panthers were initially expected to take a shot at a playoff berth. However, a 3-8 record has more or less sealed their faith for this season.
The main reason for Panthers lagging behind is the disappointing performance by quarterback Cam Newton.
Newton has failed to give a breakout performance in his second season in the league, but the first overall pick of the 2011 draft seems to have found his form after he had a spectacular game against Philadelphia Eagles that led to a 30-22 victory in Week
12.
Newton completed 18 out of 28 passes for 306 yards and score two passing touchdowns while he carried the ball 14 times for 52 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
The quarterback has thrown six touchdown passes in last four games as compared to five during the first seven games. Talking about Newton, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said:
"People are throwing different things at him now. They're trying to throw things that have worked against him at him, and he's learning those things and understanding them."
Panthers offence will be boosted by the fact that they go up against Chiefs defence that is ranked lowest in the league.
Chiefs have struggled big time on both sides of the ball. The defence has given away 22 passing touchdowns this season and has also allowed an average of 126.1 rushing yards per game.
Things are slightly better in the offence as the running game is excelling under the leadership of Jamaal Charles who rushed for 107 yards during the Chiefs eight consecutive defeat last week.
Chiefs (1-10) lost Week 12 game by 9-17 against Denver Broncos during which head coach Romeo Crennel clearly showed his lack of confidence in each of his quarterbacks as he went for three field goals in the game rather than going for touchdowns.
Both quarterbacks, Brady Quinn and Matt Cassel, have been the biggest disappointment this season. Quinn finished last game with 13 of 25 for 126 yards and threw away an interception.
Talking about the problems currently prevailing for the Chiefs, head coach Romeo Crennel said:
"This is a result-driven business we're in and ... when you don't get results, you don't feel good about it. Everybody is frustrated about losing – players, coaches, fans, owners, everybody. What we want or what we need is, we need to try to win a game to
make us feel better, give us a little confidence and then if you win one, then maybe we can win another one."
