Kansas City Chiefs look for first home win as they host Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 – NFL Preview
Kansas City Chiefs play their third home game of the season as they face Baltimore Ravens in their Week 5 tie on Sunday, October 07, 2012, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO.
Ravens (3-1) are coming back on the field after getting a long rest. They played their last game on Thursday, September 27, against their Week 4 opponents Cleveland Browns.
All the fatigue of playing their first four games should be gone by now as the players received the due rest.
The offence has been creating havoc this season for Ravens’ opponents. Quarterback Joe Flacco has been in phenomenal form. Moreover, the defence has produced marvels on the field.
So, it looks like Ravens could ride back home with another win in their bag, but things are not quite that straight forward in the National Football League (NFL).
Ravens did not look good in their only away game that they lost 23-24 against Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.
Also, playing at Arrowhead Stadium is not that easy as the crowd there is regarded as one of the loudest and most hostile in the league. Giving his opinion about playing at Arrowhead Stadium, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said:
"The times we've played there, it's been really loud. It's one of the great venues in the NFL. It's a beautiful setting, it's traditional and it's really, really red. Our guys will have to be ready for that."
Chiefs (1-3) have struggled big time on the offence. The offence has given away turnovers 15 times this season which is the highest in the league.
Moreover, Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has been in the forefront of giving away the possession. He has fumbled on three occasions and has been intercepted seven times.
The wide receiving corps has not been as explosive as was thought in the offseason. Wide receiver Jamaal Charles has covered only 325 passing yards in his last two games.
Things will not get any easier for Chiefs offence as they face the defence that has let a mere 2.4 yards per carry. Talking about Ravens defence, Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki said:
“Baltimore has been a great team for a number of years here. Their defence has been their main thing all these years, so we’ve got to be ready. We won’t overlook them at all. They’ll come in ready to go and so will we.”
Chiefs’ defensive play has been below average even at home. Opposing teams have scored 10 passing touchdowns against them, which is the second highest in the league.
Chiefs may not have that much advantage of playing at home if they continue to play disappointing game. It will be the chance for Ravens to continue their good form as they play three of their next four games on road.
