Kansas City Chiefs not pleased with fans behaviour during quarterback Matt Cassel’s injury – NFL News
Players of Kansas City Chiefs are not happy with their fans’ reaction to the injury of Matt Cassel, who got injured during Week 5 game against Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 07, 2012.
A considerable amount of crowd in Arrowhead Stadium cheered when Cassel got a concussion in the final quarter of the game after getting a hit from Ravens defensive end Haloti Ngata.
In his interview after the game, Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Winston scolded the fans for their uncivilised behaviour. Winston said:
"It's 100 percent sickening. I've never been more embarrassed in my life to play football than at that moment right there. I get emotional about it because these guys, they work their butts off. Matt Cassel hasn't done anything to you people. We are not
gladiators and this is not the Roman Colosseum. This is a game,"
This is not the first time that fans have showed their hatred for Cassel. Throughout the last two seasons, Cassel has not been able to impress with his performance.
The frustration of the fans has reached its limit this season as they booed Cassel whenever he was intercepted or fumbled the ball.
In their last game, one of the Chiefs fans used a plane to mark his protest against keeping Cassel the starter.
The plane carried a banner which called for Chiefs owner to remove Cassel from starting quarterback post. Talking about the fans’ behaviour, running back Jamaal Charles said:
“When someone gets booed, it's not right. It's his health. You know what I'm saying? He got hurt. You have to respect. It wasn't right that he got booed. I'll speak that for any stadium, any player to get hurt."
The quarterback was intercepted twice during the game before he got injured. He also gave away three turnovers.
During the last few games, Chiefs home games have been buzzing with chants of name of their backup quarterback Brady Quinn.
Even though Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel has not ruled out Cassel playing in their next game, it is likely that they will start with Quinn. Quinn must show good performance otherwise he will get the same reception from the fans.
