Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt to have more influence in team affairs – NFL News
After another deplorable season, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has shown his intent to take team matters in his own hand.
Hunt has the reputation of keeping things close to his associates and does not want to get the media attention over the issues regarding the team.
However, the owner got himself available to the media on Monday, December 31, 2012, after announcing that the team had fired head coach Romeo Crennel after a dismal 2-14 record in the 2012 season.
Hunt indicated that he now wants to make a complete overhaul of the administrative hierarchy of the franchise and wants the new head coach to report directly to him rather than through general manager Scott Pioli.
Moreover, Hunt shied away from answering the question about whether Pioli would remain a part of the franchise in coming time. According to the Associated Press, Hunt said:
"You know, historically, I've interacted with the general manager on everything that relates to the football team. I've had conversations with the head coach, but they're few and far between, in terms of really strategic stuff."
Hunt has been very busy during last few days to find the replacement for Crennel. The owner is almost certain to meet the likely candidates for the job this week which include the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.
Falcons special team coach Keith Armstrong is also likely to have a meeting with Hunt when he visits Atlanta.
Hunt forced the notion that he is looking for many characteristics in the coach that also include having better communication with the owner. Brandon carried on and said:
“If I had to boil it down to a few things, I'd say a proven leader. Somebody who has demonstrated the ability to build a successful program, or been part of building a success program. Somebody of high integrity, somebody who is a successful teacher and
communicator, who has a high football IQ but at the same time likes to roll up their sleeves and work hard.”
Looking at how things are happening in Chiefs’ camp, the countdown is likely to have begun for Pioli.
