Kansas City Chiefs performance report till Week 7 – NFL Special Part 1
In this edition, we will review performance of Kansas City Chiefs from Week 1 to 7.
Chiefs have been down and out this season with only one win in seven weeks. These types of statistics are not new for Chiefs’ fans.
The quarterback position is a mess as Chiefs have still not decided who will be their starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Moreover, running back Jamaal Charles has given mixed bag of performances due to injury worries.
The defence has failed to stop the opposing run due to disappointing performance by the defensive line.
The special teams is probably the only consistent performer on the whole roster as they played a major role in Chiefs’ only win.
Week 1: Atlanta Falcons
Chiefs started their season against a team that is currently the only team in the league to have an undefeated record after Week 7.
Atlanta Falcons got first of their six consecutive wins of the season with a dominating 40-24 victory.
There was not much difference between the two teams after the end of the first half, but the game soon turned into a one-sided affair, thanks to a stout performance by Falcons defence.
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel lagged in decision making as he turned over twice in the second half.  Cassel got a five-yard running touchdown, but looked below par during most of the game.
The score line could have been worse if Chiefs had not got a consolation touchdown in final seconds of the game.
Week 2: Buffalo Bills
The final score might not exactly describe the overall performance of Chiefs in this game. Although Buffalo Bills beat the Chiefs by 35-17, the score was 35-3 with less than seven minutes left in the game.
Cassel connected with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe twice to score two touchdowns, but it was too late for the Chiefs to make a comeback.
Chiefs offence looked dispersed throughout the game, so did the struggling defence. It was Chiefs sixth 0-2 start in last seven seasons.
Week 3: New Orleans Saints
It is a season where all the average teams are pushing to get a victory against the once mighty New Orleans Saints. Chiefs did exactly that as they beat Saints 27-24 to mark their first win of the season.
Kicker Ryan Succop scored a massive six field goals to take his team on top at the end of the game. Offensive linebacker Justin Houston got three sacks during the game.
Chiefs were 6-24 down in the third quarter, but made a stunning comeback which started with Charles’ mind blowing 91-yard run to the end zone. He carried the ball 33 times for 233 yards.
