Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn says he is ready to take starting job – NFL News
Even though Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel indicated that his quarterback Brady Quinn would be able to take more snaps in practice sessions this week, Quinn insists it is not the case.
Quinn spoke to the Kansas City Star on Wednesday, October 04, 2012. He insisted that the workload has not been increased despite the talk going on about him replacing quarterback Matt Cassel as starter. Quinn said:
“My reps have been the exact same as they had before. The only thing that changes is when you have an opportunity to go in and play. Besides that, everything is as-is. We continue to work hard, we continue to support each other and stick in our role.”
Crennel hinted during the week that Quinn might get the opportunity to start in Week 5 game against Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 07, 2012. Quinn has not started in last two seasons, when he was playing for Denver Broncos.
However, things could go in Quinn’s favour as starting quarterback Matt Cassel has struggled to produce good results during this season.
Cassel’s throw was intercepted three times only in the first half of Chief’s Week 4 game against San Diego Chargers, which they lost 20-37.
The last time Quinn started a game was in the 2009 season playing for Cleveland Browns. Talking about his chances of starting again, Quinn said:
“When you’re in a backup role, you always have to prepare like you’re a starter. That’s no different each week. If you don’t do that, you’re not preparing yourself to do well, but also for your teammates, you’re going to be letting them down.”
There is no doubt that Crennel has confidence in Quinn. That is why he has re-signed a player with whom he has worked before. Crennel was head coach of Cleveland Brown, when they drafted Quinn in the first round of the 2007 draft.
If Cassel continues to play like he has done this season, it would not take much long before Quinn finally gets the opportunity to start.
