Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn to have more snaps after dismal show by Matt Cassel – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel might not retain his starting role as head coach Romeo Crennel announced on Monday that backup quarterback Brady Quinn would be getting first team snaps in practice session.
Crennel specified that Quinn will be having more playing time in coming weeks if Cassel fails to impress with his performance. Crennel said:
"You pull him out, put somebody else in, let him settle down and maybe he goes back in. As a coach, you get a feeling about whether he's making good decisions, poor decisions ... those kind of things all kind of play into it."
Cassel’s game was poor to say the least in Chiefs’ 20-37 loss to San Diego Chargers in their Week 4 game on Sunday, September 30.
The quarterback gave away three interceptions in the first half of the game, one of them was returned for touchdown.
Crennel’s decision does look wise as Cassel has only thrown five touchdown passes this season and has been intercepted for a massive seven times.
Chiefs’ fans are furious with the way their offence has played this season. They have even struggled against weak defensive sides.
Crowd was chanting name of Chiefs third tier quarterback Ricky Stanzi during the game on Sunday. However, there is not a great chance of seeing him in the next game.
The head coach must resolve the problems the offence is currently facing and he does look ready to do that. Crennel said:
"At some point, as a coach, you go through and you see what's happening in the game and how a guy is reacting and how he's responding to what's happening in the game. If you feel he's inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that's when
you move on from him and give someone else a chance."
One thing is certain that making changes at quarterback will not solve the team’s all woes as players lack experience to win games against tough competition.
