Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn to start in Week 6 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs officially announced on Thursday, October 11, 2012, that their backup quarterback Brady Quinn will start their Week 6 tie against Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, October 14.
Quinn was expected to start the game come Sunday as quarterback Matt Cassel got a concussion in Chiefs’ Week 5 game against Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 07.
After Cassel got injury in the final quarter, Quinn stepped in on the field and completed three out of three passes.
Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel emphasised that Quinn must prepare himself mentally to face the strong Buccaneers’ defence. Crennel said:
“He gets to work against the defence and he gets to throw against [Brandon] Flowers, against [Eric] Berry and those guys, and even though you’re not running ‘your offense,’ you still have to deliver the ball so it has a chance to be completed. You still
have to hand it off and by osmosis he gains some experience by doing that.”
It will be the first time that Quinn will start the game since the 2009 season. He has played with many different teams during that period that includes Cleveland Brown, Denver Broncos and Chiefs, but has not been able to get a chance to start. Giving his
comments about Quinn's skills, Crennel said:
“Quinn has been in the league, and he’s been on different teams and he’s seen different operations and how things are done. I think that he’s excited about this opportunity. I think he’ll be good and make the best of it.”
Many of Chiefs fans will be happy to finally see a change of guards at quarterback. Cassel has been going through one of his worst times on the field this season.
According to various reports, Cassel will be able to fully recover at the time when Chiefs return from bye week to play their Week 8 game against Oakland Raiders.
However, whether Cassel will be able to get back his starting position depends on the performance Quinn shows on Sunday.
