Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel gets head injury during Week 5 game – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs starting Matt Cassel could not have much poor game than he had in Week 5. After failing miserably to put up a good performance, he got a head injury in the final quarter of the Chiefs’ 9-6 loss to Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 07,
2012.
According to initial reports, Cassel is diagnosed with a concussion. He went to the ground in the fourth quarter and laid flat for a few minutes.
Cassel was able to stand on his feet after a few minutes and limped off to the sidelines. He was immediately taken to the locker room and was unable to return to field.
It is not yet clear how severe the injury is. Chiefs have not given time frame for Cassel to return.
Cassel put up a worst performance possible at a time when fans are shouting for a change at starting quarterback position.
This perception was prominent in the stadium as a plane flew over with a banner demanding Cassel to be benched.
The quarterback completed nine out of 15 passes for just 92 yards and was intercepted twice in the game. He also lost the possession on another two occasions after fumbling away the ball.
Backup quarterback Brady Quinn replaced Cassel and looked in much better shape as he provided the opportunity for Chiefs to score through a field goal. He got a standing ovation by the fans who are frustrated by Cassel’s inability to reduce turnovers.
He led the team in only one series during the game. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel appreciated the style of offensive play in presence of Quinn. According to the Associated Press, Crennel said:
"If we will play like that going forward, we give ourselves a chance to win the game. We had a chance in this game. So even though I'm disappointed in the loss, the way the team played, we played much better overall football."
A concussion could mean a considerable time out of the field for Cassel, but it likely gives him time to rethink about the mistakes he has made during this season and try to correct them.
