Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel not bothered by fans’ reaction to his injury – NFL News
Even though his teammates gave a critical response to the fans cheering his injury, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has said that he was not annoyed by their behaviour.
Talking to the media for the first time since getting a concussion during Chiefs’ Week 5 game, Cassel said that Chiefs’ fans have always been supportive of him, even during the bad times. He said:
“I’m not really going to speak to what happened last week. All I’ll say is, look, I live here year round. I’ve had nothing but support from the people in Kansas City, from the people we’ve met, my wife has met and my children go to school with.”
Cassel was hit by Baltimore Ravens defensive end Haloti Ngata during the game. When the quarterback was taken off the field, a small portion of the crowd clapped on his departure.
The reaction by the fans did not go well with many of his fellow players. Offensive tackle Eric Winston went on to say that fans’ behaviour was uncivilised and it made the players look as if they were playing in the Coliseum of Rome.
Fans have previously shown frustration for Cassel’s underperformance this season.
During Week 4 game against San Diego Chargers, one fan flew a plane above the ground which had a banner asking the Chiefs’ owner to remove Cassel from the starting quarterback position. However, Cassel went on and said:
“The fact of the matter is, Kansas City is a great place to play. We have a passionate fan base. I’m sure that they’re frustrated. We’re frustrated as well. But we’re working and doing everything in our power to get it corrected and moving in the right direction.”
Cassel has been sharing snaps with quarterback Brady Quinn during the practice session this week. However, Cassel believes this will affect the output of the offensive team which is still struggling to find a right balance.
Quinn played as starter in absence of Cassel. He was unable to give a very impressive performance which led to Cassel getting a share of snaps. Chiefs have enough time to decide their starter as they head into bye week.
