Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel to start in Week 11 – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel will retain his starting position when the team face Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11 game on Sunday, November 18, 2012. Quarterback Brady Quinn has not yet been cleared to play.
As usual, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel discussed the situation currently persisting about the quarterback position on Wednesday, November 14. Crennel said:
"Brady does feel better. I'm glad he's feeling better. But he hasn't been cleared to play yet. I can't take the chance on practicing the guy and not having him ready."
Quinn has been recovering from a concussion he got during Week 8 game against Oakland Raiders.
The quarterback was cleared to participate in the team’s practice session, but has not been cleared for contact. Talking about Quinn’s current injury status, Crennel said:
"He's feeling a lot better, doing a lot better. He went to the doctor and he told him he's doing a lot better. The doctor also told him he was going to monitor him this week, and if he makes it through this week without incident, he could be cleared for
the weekend. But he's got to make it through the week. If there are any complications, they will not clear him."
This assures Cassel to get his third consecutive start. It comes as a bonus for him as Cassel has not been very effective on the field this season.
In fact, this has been the most regretful season for Cassel. He was given the starting position initially when the season began, but his poor form let the team down.
He finally lost the starting position after getting a concussion in Week 4. Good performances by Quinn earned him the leading role later.
Cassel’s meagre output can be explained by looking at his stats this season. In eight games, he has put 58.6% pass completion rate and has thrown 12 interceptions, getting a quarterback rating of 66.6.
Cassel needs to utilise this opportunity to the optimum level and with Chiefs currently standing with 1-8 record, giving a winning performance can do wonders to his prospects with the team.
