Kansas City Chiefs quarterback out after appendectomy

The Chiefs are heading into one of their most important regular season games and they are going to have to play without their starting quarterback Matt Cassel. The quarterback had an appendectomy performed this Wednesday and it
is doubtful that he would start this Sunday when the Chiefs face off against the San Diego Chargers. Brodie Croyle will stand in for Cassel.
Croyle hasn’t started for the Chiefs in this season but insists he is ready for it. He said that he would prepare for this Sunday’s game the same way he would any other week. “You never know when it's going to happen, so you always
have to be mentally in it and mentally ready to go.”
Their division rivals are tied with the Oakland Raiders for second place behind the Kansas City Chiefs with a record of 6-6. The Chiefs lead the division with an 8-4 win loss tally and this Sunday’s game is of paramount importance
for the Chiefs and goes a long way in deciding the AFC East title. Cassel has been exceptional this season. He has thrown 2,503 yards and 23 touchdowns for Kansas City and has cost just four interceptions. In the past 4 weeks, the Chiefs have won three of
four games and Cassel has thrown almost a thousand yards and 11 touchdowns to help make it happen. Cassel has been the driving force behind the Chief’s success this season.
Earlier this week the Chief’s disclosed that Cassel had missed practice due to an illness. In what is the surest sign that Cassel would miss the game, the Kansas City Chiefs, signed quarterback Tyler Palko to be Cryoles backup.
“We’ve been a little on the edge with two quarterbacks the entire year and really had a chance without there being a clear-cut guy we felt could come in and be on the game-day roster . . . The fact you can use a third emergency quarterback was the determining
factor,” Chief’s coach Todd Haley said. “At least it was a body we could get to the game to serve a purpose.”
