Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles gets neck injury against San Diego Chargers – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs have suffered another blow as their star running back Jamaal Charles got injured in Week 9 contest against San Diego Chargers on Thursday, November 01, 2012.
Charles got a neck injury during the final quarter as Chiefs lost the game 13-31. It is big setback for Chiefs who are struggling to get their offence going.
The running back was hit hard on the side of his neck by Chargers linebacker Donald Butler. Paramedics immediately rushed to take care of him and took him to the sidelines.
Charles was seen being tested by the medical staff. He was unable to participate in the rest of the game. The running back ended the game with 12 carries for 39 yards.
However, Charles was able to stand on his feet at the sidelines during the final minutes of the game.
Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said that the team will evaluate the running back’s condition on Monday.
Charles talked with the media and revealed that he was tested for concussion on the sidelines and the results came out negative. According to The Associated Press, Charles said:
“They said it wasn’t a concussion because I remembered everything. That’s very fine, because they would try to hold me out next week. I feel like I can still play. I’m fine right now. I feel good. I came off the field pretty good. I feel like I could have
gone back in, but they told me to relax.”
Charles returned to the field this season after spending many months recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
It has been an up and down season for Charles. Even though he managed to cover a record-breaking 233 rushing yards against New Orleans Saints, the running back has ran for 40 or less yards in four games this season.
Despite mixed bag of performances, Chiefs desperately need him back as he has been the only player in the offence who has shown game-winning capabilities. Charles carried on and said:
“Defences are concentrating on stopping our running game. That’s the only thing that makes our offence go, is our running game.”
