Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has soreness in his knee – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs have not received much good news of late and it looks to continue to be that way as their premier running back reinjured his knee during Week 2 game against Buffalo Bills on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
Charles dinged up his left knee as Bills linebacker Kelvin Sheppard pushed him to the ground during the first half after which Charles got on his feet in a limping manner.
Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel confirmed the reports that Charles has a bit of soreness on his knee. He said during a recent news conference:
“He got banged up a little bit and then (the Chiefs) decided not to put him back in the game. He wanted to go back in … but the other guys were doing OK so we left the other guys in. I talked to him after the game. He said he wanted to go back in and he
felt OK. He was getting treatment, so I think he’ll be ready to play this week.”
However, Crennel did say that Charles would likely play in Week 3 against New Orleans Saints.
He only played for a few minutes in the second half of the game. Overall, Charles managed to carry the balls only on six occasions for just three yards.
Charles got a serious injury in the same knee last season as well, after tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
He then had to go through a reconstructive surgery in order to recover from the injury that limited his participation to only two games during the entire 2011 season.
Crennel said that the team decided to replace Charles during the game against Bills because the player did not look fit enough to continue.
Charles was drafted by Chiefs in the third round (73rd overall pick) of the 2008 draft. He had the most successful season in 2010 when he was able to cover more than 1,400 yards.
Chiefs desperately want to see Charles back on the field after losing their first two games of the season.
