Kansas City Chiefs tender Wallace Gilberry, Barry Richardson and Brandon Carr, sign Cory Greenwood
The Kansas City Chiefs have tendered defensive end Wallace Gilberry, offensive tackle Barry Richardson and defensive back Brandon Carr, according to a newspaper in Kansas City, Kansas.
In the 2010 season, Gilberry started in only two games but appeared in all 16 games of the season as a vital member of the defensive line. The 6 ft 2”, 268-pound defensive end from the University of Alabama joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in
2008. In his first season, Gilberry played in five games but started none. He had only two tackles in his first year. In the 2009 season, he participated in all 16 games but again started none. He accumulated 22 tackles and 4.5 sacks that year. He played a
lot better in the 2010 season, playing in 16 games, starting two and racking up 23 tackles, seven sacks, one pass defended and two forced fumbles.
Richardson has just completed his third year and started in every single game during the 2010 season. A sixth round pick from Clemson University, he has started in 17 of the 32 games that he has played in. The 6 ft 6”, 319-pound offensive tackle played in
only six games, starting none in his rookie year. In 2009, he played in ten games but started only one. Apparently, he made a good impression on the team, resulting in him starting in all 16 games in 2010.
Carr was drafted in the fifth round out of Grand Valley State University in the 2008 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old defensive back has started in 48 straight games and had an interception and 57 tackles during the 2010 season. His career statistics total four
interceptions and 192 tackles. The 6 ft, 207-pound Carr hails from Flint, Michigan and has started in all 48 games of his career, starting from the first game of his rookie year. In 2008, he accumulated 73 tackles, only three of which were assisted, along
with six passes deflected and two interceptions. He returned those two interceptions for a total of 67 yards.
In 2009, he again started in all 16 games and had 62 tackles, six of which were assisted. He deflected 19 passes and had one interception which he returned for 31 yards. He also forced one fumble. In 2010, he had 57 total tackles, 11 of which were assisted.
He also deflected 25 passes and had one interception, which was not returned for any yards.
The newspaper also reported that offensive lineman Ryan O’Callaghan and running backs Tim Castille and Jackie Battle were not tendered by the franchise, meaning that they will be unrestricted free agents when, and if, a new Collective Bargaining Agreement
is in place.
Reportedly, Cory Greenwood also had a great rookie season as a linebacker and he has been signed for a one-year contract.
