Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kevin Boss put on injured reserve, out of remaining season – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs lost one of their influential players in the offence for the rest of the season as tight end Kevin Boss was put on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday, October 03, 2012.
Doctors have given estimation that Boss will not be able to recover fully from his head injury before the end of the season. This will further increase the problems Chiefs are facing in their beleaguered offence.
While making the announcement about Boss’ status, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said that he kind of expected it to happen after analysing the speed of the tight end’s recovery. Crennel said:
"When he didn't make the comeback, you know, and it was taking time, I was kind of concerned there might be an issue, because generally they do those baseline tests and you can make a comeback, so when it took a little longer to show improvement, I thought
there could be an issue, and found out there was one."
Boss got injured during Chiefs’ Week 2 game against Buffalo Bills on September 16. Chiefs lost that game 17-35.
The tight end got a hit on his helmet by Bills safety Da'Norris Searcy soon after catching a 29-yard pass thrown from quarterback Matt Cassel.
Chiefs are currently leading the league with most turnovers and desperately need consistency in their offensive game. Boss’ injury will greatly hinder their plans for this season. Crennel carried on and said:
"Kevin was disappointed. We were disappointed, because we thought he was a good addition to the team, thought he'd be able to help us. He enjoys playing football, but with his situation, he won't be able to pay this year."
In absence of Boss, Chiefs will play Tony Moeaki as starter. Moeaki is coming off an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
Moeaki is hopefully fit as Chiefs have not added another tight end on their roster. Instead, they have added linebacker Bryan Kehl on the roster spot vacated by Boss.
Chiefs selected Boss this offseason with hopes of getting output he gave in his time with Oakland Raiders and New York Giants. He signed a three-year, $9 million contract with Chiefs.
