Kansas City Chiefs to start with quarterback Brady Quinn when he gets fit – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs are likely to make quarterback Brady Quinn’s starting position permanent. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel indicated on Friday, November 02, 2012 that Quinn will get the starting quarterback post back when returns to full fitness.
Quinn got a concussion during Week 9 game against Pittsburgh Steelers. He is not yet cleared to return to the field. Talking about Quinn’s injury status, Crennel said:
“Brady has not been cleared yet. I said last week that if the doctors cleared him last week then he would be the starter. He was not cleared and he has not been cleared, so when he gets cleared then we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
These comments come at a time when Chiefs have taken their fifth defeat in a row after 13-31 loss against American Football Conference (AFC) West rivals San Diego Chargers in Week 8.
Chiefs started that game with quarterback Matt Cassel who continued his dismal run of form and turned over the ball twice during the game.
Cassel finished the game 19 of 29 for 181 yards and no touchdowns while throwing one interception. Crennel carried on and said:
“When Brady is cleared, then I will evaluate it again and then make a decision on it. Understand that when I put Brady in, I did not want him looking over his shoulder. That’s still the same. That’s still true right now. That was my mindset when making the
change and going in.”
The coach has not clearly stated that Quinn will be the starter for the rest of the season, but looking at the current performance of Cassel it could be a possibility.
Quinn has completed 59.1% of his passes this season and has looked much more effective than Cassel, who has given away a total of 18 turnovers including 11 interceptions so far this season.
Chiefs desperately need to get better performance from their quarterbacks in order to save their season.
Currently 1-7, Chiefs will have to come up with some solution to their offensive woes in order to finish this season in a respectable manner.
