Kansas City Chiefs up for re-signing Brandon Carr and Dwayne Bowe – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs’ general manager, Scott Pioli, on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, hinted at re-signing the team’s two impending free agents, cornerback, Brandon Carr, and wide receiver, Dwayne Bowe.
In an interview, the general manager said that http://www.senore.com/Kansas-City-Chiefs-sign-former-Oakland-Raiders-cornerback,-Stanford-Routt-NFL-News-a131033, will not have any impact on negotiations with Carr.
Pioli also said that he would love to keep Bowe with the franchise ‘one way or another’.
Carr started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with the Chiefs in 2008 after signing a three-year deal. Last year, he got a one-year contract extension from the franchise.
In his four seasons with Chiefs, Carr has started all the games. In the last season, he recorded 45 tackles and four interceptions.
After Routt’s hiring, it was speculated that Chiefs might not want to continue with Carr, but Pioli rubbished all the speculations and clearly stated that the new acquisition will not impact the decision on Carr’s contract.
He said:
“The signing of Stanford Routt does not impact where we’re at with Brandon Carr.”
The general manager added:
“As a matter of fact, Romeo and I both reached out to Brandon yesterday as this was unfolding and talked to him. I spoke personally with Brandon, and without getting into the details of what that conversation was, he knows and he’s known before that he’s
someone that we want to try and keep here and he’s still someone we want to keep a Chief.”
On the other hand, Bowe, who signed a five-year contract with the Chiefs in 2007, will become a free agent next month.
In the last season, he started 14 games while playing 16 where he had 81 receptions for 1,159 yards for five touchdowns.
The Chiefs have not provided a clear stance on Bowe’s contract, but the general manager has expressed interest in keeping him with the franchise, implying that the player could also get the franchise tag.
Pioli said of Bowe:
"We're hopeful to re-sign Dwayne. One way or another, we would love to have Dwayne back here as a Chief.”
With the hiring of new players and re-signing the old ones, Chiefs are investing heavily in the team. It would be interesting to see how the money matters shape up in future.
