Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe placed on season-ending injured reserve – NFL News
Kansas City Chiefs placed their top wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on season-ending injured reserve (IR) on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
The Chiefs leading receiver of the season was previously ruled out for Week 15 game before Chiefs announced his placement on IR. According to the Associated Press, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said:
"Well, one of the things that Bowe presents is he presents some dependability to our offense, playmaking ability, We all kind of depend on him a little bit. So now with him being out, what we're going have to do is, we're going to have to rely on those other
guys to step up and be able to make some plays for us so that we can generate some offence."
Bowe got a rib injury during Week 14 game against Cleveland Browns. The player went through various tests including an MRI during last week and the Chiefs medical staff finally put up the assessment that he will not be able to get fit before the end of the
season.
This could also mean that Bowe’s tenure with Chiefs might have come to an end. Bowe has played this season under a $9.5 million franchise tag.
The wide receiver has been unhappy about playing with a franchise tag and did not sign the tender until later in the offseason.
However, Bowe only recently said that he would like to finish his professional career playing for Chiefs.
In absence of Bowe, Chiefs have to work with makeshift wide receivers like running back Jamaal Charles who is the team’s second best option right now. Giving his opinion about playing without Bowe, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said:
"Everybody's got to do a better job, collectively. Dwayne was a big part of the passing game, obviously. Everybody else is going to have to chip in and make sure they're doing their jobs really well."
During this season, Bowe has caught 59 passes and covered 801 yards and has scored three touchdowns.
Bowe is one-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection. The six-year veteran was drafted by Chiefs in the first round (23rd overall pick) in the 2007 draft.
