Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe wants to end his career as Chief – NFL News
Despite rumours that Kansas City Chiefs will part ways with their veteran wide receiver Dwayne Bowe after the 2012 season, the player came up front and rejected all the speculations on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
In an interview with the Kansas City Star, Bowe made it clear that he has no intentions to leave the franchise where he started his professional career. Bowe said:
"Why wouldn't I want to stay here? It's a no-brainer for me. I never said I didn't want to be here. I never said that. This is where it started for me. This is where people know me from.”
Bowe is thriving towards breaking the franchise record for most passes caught by a Chiefs player. He is currently just 12 catches behind Chiefs legendary wide receiver Henry Marshall.
The wide receiver failed to break out a deal with Chiefs at the start of the offseason after which the team put up a franchise tag on Bowe.
After sitting out all the offseason, Bowe and Chiefs finally struck one-year $9.5 million deal.
Looking at the current situation it looks highly unlikely that Bowe will be satisfied if Chiefs put up a long-term contract on the table next year.
However, Bowe insists he is foreseeing a bright future with the team. He carried on and said:
"This is where I was drafted. When I'm finished, I feel I should be in the Hall of Fame and hopefully win Super Bowls. I play the game to win. That's what I do week in and week out. I feel we can do that here, of course. Things happen, and it won't be easy,
but I try to show (that spirit) and it will become contagious.”
Even though Chiefs are 1-8 and looking woeful overall, Bowe has kept his composure and has put up good performances this season.
Bowe, 28, has received 49 passes for 626 yards and has scored three touchdowns in nine games this season. The six-season veteran was drafted by Chiefs as 23rd overall pick in the 2007 draft.
