Kansas City General Manager Dayton Moore declares no role of club in free agency
Major League Baseball has now concluded and the top teams in the National League and the American League are preparing for a change in the coming season as the time to rebuild and restructure the roster is at hand.
The clubs finally have the opportunity to repair the squad’s weaknesses and transmute most of the gaps in the formation with an induction of fresh blood and experience. The task may seem hard but there are about three months left before the spring training
session starts in mid February.
Teams are looking to restructure and with options coming about, the advantages in the off field activities can boost the franchises’ reputation in the market. Where there is big business, there is big cost. The free agents in the market may be numerous but
the responsibilities are endless as well.
Prices on player services are rising each day as new clubs come knocking around for service provision. The top cats in the free agency consist of Cliff Lee, Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford and Derek Jeter. The top teams have the ability to pay for their commitment
but the small teams have little to build on.
The option of dealing with the minor league players comes into focus but the task is hard to name a suitable replacement for the top players in the current squad.
The Kansas City Royals are one such team, who are facing problems in their line-up. Not much of good talent is seen available there, according to Zack Greinke, who is one of the club’s top ball throwers.
With the side already facing problems of backing from team players, the General Manager of the ball club, Dayton Moore, has come out to declare the side will not be involved in the free agency this season. He specifically said:
“It’s not cost effective at this time for us to be real aggressive with major-league free agents. Our stance on potentially adding something (major through free-agency) is, it would really have to fit long term. That guy doesn’t exist right now, and I don’t
know who that would be. “We’re not just going to add somebody to make our payroll higher for one year”.
The team recently flew David DeJesus off to the Oakland Athletics, who had a salary tag of $6 million. It seems the club could very well face trouble in the future.
