Kansas City Royals' Eric Hosmer is looking to polish his game – MLB News
Four weeks ago, when Eric Hosmer was back home in Fort Lauderdale, he received an invitation from Alex Rodriguez on the face of his phone. The 36-year-old baseball veteran wanted to have a private hitting session with the latest baseball sensation.
Hosmer is one of the rising stars in Major League Baseball. After proving his metal in the minor league, the left handed striker moved to the Majors in 2011. In his first regular season, he displayed some high quality hitting skills as he finished third in the American League Rookie of the year voting. Following his solid performances, the 22-year-old became the most talked about prospect in the game at the end of the season.
But now, the first baseman has an excellent opportunity to workout in a private hitting session with Yankees' third baseman and he has to find a way to be there. Very few players receive such a prestigious opportunity in their careers and Hosmer will be looking to polish his game play by listening to the tips.
Hosmer has already shown the baseball world what he is capable of as he batted with a decent .293 average with 19 homers and 27 doubles in 128 games past season.
“He showed us last year what kind of player he is, on and off the field,” Royals' left-fielder Alex Gordon says. “I think there were expectations on him last year, and look what he did.”
“We didn’t expect him to be here until 2012,” Royals' general manager Dayton Moore said, who was excited to have such a talented player in his team.
“I got the grasp of Twitter down a little bit better (this offseason),” says Hosmer, who ditched his account for a few weeks late last season. “So it’ll be cool this year.”
His life has changed has considerably over the last 12 months. He is no longer a high school prospect who had never played in Class AAA. With more than 16000 Twitter fans, he now has an added responsibility on his shoulder and more pressure to perform. That is something he has to cope with to become an MVP-calibre player.
