Kansas City Royals' Alex Gordon starts workout for Spring Training – MLB News
According to sources, Alex Gordon has already started to workout for the upcoming Spring Training. The left handed striker signed a one year $4.775 million contract on Thursday. In an interview, Gordon stated that he is not concerned about how much he will be making next year. Right now, he wants to practice hard to achieve his desired goals.
“I don’t know what I should make, what I shouldn’t make. I just go out there, practice hard, work hard, and the games take care of themselves,” said Gordon. “I don’t focus on any of the business side. I’ll get the details, but I really don’t know what I’m doing, so I leave it up to them.”
“I think they’ve made an offer or something like that. I think we both wanted to get the one year deal done and maybe move on from there,” he further added. “We got that done and hopefully we can move on from here.”
Winner of 2011 Golden Glove Award, Gordon is extremely happy about his situation these days. He is also not too concerned about club’s business. Last season, he batted with great control and aggression to hit .299 average. His work in left-field was also quite outstanding as he won his first ever Golden Glove Award. If he can maintain his excellent form in Spring Training, he will also have a chance to upgrade his contract.
Gordon is convinced that both the Royals and himself are looking for a long term contract. Although the Royals are showing great interest in offering Gordon a multi-year deal, they have been unable to make their final decision. If Gordon can hit like he did the previous season, Royals’ General Manager Dayton Moore can consider revising his contract.
Moore commented on the situation saying that the Royals are working hard to solve players’ problems. By offering the left-fielder a longer contract this season, the club will be hoping to utilise him to his maximum capacity. Gordon, on the other hand, will be looking to make the most of his available opportunities to earn another huge pay day at the end of 2012.
