Kansas City Royals: Regular Season Results – MLB April 2011
Kansas City Royals had a poor start to their regular season campaign as they were outshined 2-4 in the opening game of their four match series against the Los Angeles Angles. However, Ned Yost’s made one of the finest come backs to clinch the series 3-1.
Outplaying the Angels 2-1 in game of the series, the Royals looked to be in their comfort zone as the dominated their rivals in almost all aspects of the game. With momentum on their side, the Royals displayed some high quality baseball in game three as
well to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Crushing the Angels 12-9 in fourth game of the series, they secured their first series victory of the regular season with a stunning performance.
Tim Collins earned his first victory of the season after the left-hander threw three innings of two hit-reliefs.
"They got me good," said Collins, who had five strikeouts. "It was probably the best shower of my life. It was awesome."
Commenting on his team’s performance, Manager Ned Yost said, "The ball was really carrying. It doesn't take away from the fact that we got too many pitches up and that they took advantage of it and drove balls out of the ballpark. But we did the same thing.
It worked out in our favor."
Showing great fighting abilities, determination and mental strength, the Royals managed to level their next series against the Chicago White Sox. Although they were outclassed in first game of the three match series against the Detroit Tigers, the Royals
held their nerves to clinch an incredible 2-1 series win.
Wilson Betemit went 4-4 with two doubles to help his side beat one of the hottest teams in baseball.
"That was a great day -- not only for me. The team played really hard," Yost said. "We're starting good right now. We have to keep going."
The Royals continued to impress the critics with some consistent performances. Demolishing Seattle Mariners in their next series, they looked on course to a great regular season. Although they were not at their very best during their four game series against
the Cleveland Indians, they managed to get a decent 2-2 results from the contest.
The American League Central team, however, failed to live up to the expectations against the Texas Rangers as they were hammered in each game of the three match series. Texas outclassed their rivals in every area of the game to end a completely one sided
series.
Under pressure, Kansas City Royals failed to produce considerable results against Cleveland Indians in their next three match series as well. However, they managed to end the month on a positive note with an impressive 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
