Kansas City Royals: Regular Season Results – MLB August 2011
The Royals had a very shaky start to the month of August as they were hammered 2-8 in the opening clash of three match series against the Baltimore Orioles. Fighting back brilliantly, Kansas City Royals looked in much more control in game 2 of the series.
Thrashing their rivals 6-2, they levelled the series 1-1 going into the third and final game.
Kansas City looked on top in game three of the series, outplaying the opposition in almost all departments of the game. Alex Gordon, who was drafted into the Kansas City Royals in 2005, finally lived up to the expectations as he scored three runs on three
hits, matching his career high.
"He's as close as you can get to dominating right now," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "He's putting great at-bats together. He's hitting the ball hard. He's hitting doubles, home runs. He's driving in runs. He's doing everything."
After making a successful start to the month, the Royals were hoping to continue their good run to improve their win-loss record at the American League Championships but as it turned out, the Royals were crushed in their next three match series against their
arch rivals, the Detroit Tigers.
Losing the first two games of the series, the Royals went further down the standings. However, in game three, they did manage to salvage some of their lost pride with an impressive 4-3 victory. Going into the contest against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Royals
had to be at their very best to yield positive results from the series. However, they failed to win a single game against the Rays as they were outshined 0-4.
"It gets real frustrating when, quite frankly, in four games and we were one hit or one pitch away from going 4-0," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "Three of the four runs today came on two-outs, nobody-on rallies."
Royals failed to achieve considerable results in their series against the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees as well, earning two victories in six games. Unable to handle the pressure, Ned Yost’s side paid the ultimate price in all close encounters.
The Royals seemed to struggle throughout the month as they failed to make an impact this late into the regular season.
Struggling to find form, the Royals failed to put up a decent show in a four match series against the Boston Red Sox as well. Losing three out of four games against the AL East team, the squad needed a miracle to rise from the slump. However, they ended
the month with another series loss against Detroit Tigers. Team Manager, Ned Yost was clearly disappointed with his team’s efforts and he aimed to end the season strongly.
