Kansas City Royals: Regular Season Results – MLB July 2011
After having a disastrous time during the month of June, the Kansas City Royals were hoping to salvage some of their lost pride in July 2011.
Kansas City was very ordinary against the Colorado Rockies, humiliated 0-9 in the first game of a three match series. The American League Central team had no answers to some high quality display of baseball by their rivals as they failed to score a single
run.
The second game turned out to be a disappointing one as well as they were hammered 6-9 to lose the series 0-2. However, in game three of the series, the Royals staged a marvellous comeback 18-6 to end their losing streak. Cabrera homered twice and he drove
in five runs in an emphatic victory for Kansas City.
"We were aggressive and we had a pretty good approach against that guy," Cabrera said.
Team manager was also quite satisfied with the way his team responded to difficult situations during the contest. "Those tack-on runs were huge," Ned Yost said. "When you score early, get a six-run lead and they come back and score five runs and you snuff
it out with another six spot, it's huge."
The Royals put up a much better show in their series against the Chicago White Sox. Despite losing the opening encounter 4-5, they kept pushing for their first series win of the month. Making a strong 5-3 come back in game 2, they evened the series 1-all.
With some great team work and fighting abilities, the Royals clinched their first series win with an impressive 4-1 victory over the White Sox.
Despite having momentum on their side, the Royals failed to achieve considerable results in their next series against the Detroit Tigers. The AL Central team was hammered in the first two games to let their rivals take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the four-match
series. Melky Cabrera rescued his team once more with his impressive hitting abilities in game three.
"We had eight or nine hits, a bunch of RBIs -- the majority of the RBIs. Billy swung the bat really, really well tonight, as did Melky, and Gordo with the big three-run homer was key," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said.
However, with the pitching department struggling to produce the goods, the Royals were always fighting a losing battle as they lost the last game of the series 1-2. Under pressure, the Royals continued to display poor baseball throughout the 30 day period.
In their next series against Minnesota Twins, they were thrashed 1-3. Although they put up a decent show against Tampa Bay and the White Sox, their overall performance in July was below par. Team Manager, Yost aimed to do some repair work to give their fans
something to cheer about in their future games.
